Meeting with Members of the Scottish Parliament

HCCU meets Margaret Burgess

Recently, HCCU staff member Marion Carr met with members of the Scottish Parliament and also, Ian Blackford, Lochaber’s Member of Parliament at Westminster. All were very interested in the project and thought it was a worthwhile scheme.

  • Dave Thompson is already a member of the Credit Union and he says that it helped him buy his car!

  • Ian Blackford believes in the Credit Union movement and gave a talk on it, roughly thirty years ago, and is still a supporter.

  • David Stewart and Rhoda Grant were willing to be of assistance wherever they could;

  • and, although Drew Hendry and Paul Monaghan did not manage to meet with Marion, they were keen to hear about the project.

Voluntary Action Lochaber organised a meeting with members of local voluntary bodies and six pupils from Lochaber High School, to provide ideas for the "Fairer Scotland" campaign. This proved to be a very lively discussion! Margaret Burgess - Minister for Housing and Welfare - joined them and took away some very valid points from the discussion, including information about the Credit Union and the project. All of which ensured that this was a worthwhile event.
